If you want a dog, walk down to the pet store and pick one out. If you want a relationship, take your man off his leash. Dogs are domesticated creatures, men are not. They do not want to be led around by you or trained. And much like an abused puppy, they will lash out eventually. So stop trying to mold your man into your ideal and just let him roam.
It is really important in any relationship for each partner to have their own space. Men don't usually want to sit around and watch chick flicks with you and the gal pals. So even if you are an avid sports watcher (and not just the lady who pretends to get guys to like her... you know who you are), give your guy some man time to beat his chest, drop some curse words and not worry about dropping chip crumbs.
If he is having guy night, don't pout when he doesn't invite you. Don't sit at home, worrying and wondering what he is up to and with whom, waiting for the moment you can pounce on him as he walks in the door, demanding explanations for what you think has happened that night. Call up some girl friends and hit the town. Or light a few candles, run the bath and read a good book. Whatever makes you happy. You need to have hobbies and interests in your life. I hate to break it to you ladies, your man is not a hobby. Men still have interests and hobbies, even while maintaining a relationship. It is a rare man who stops watching sports and hanging out with friends so he can stay at home and knit with his lady.
To keep the relationship interesting you have to be BE interesting. And that doesn't mean feigning an interest in all the things your guy likes so he will think you like them too. So you love to salsa dance but your man refuses to take his two left feet out on to the dance floor? Sign up for a class solo and enjoy yourself. He will have so much more respect for you if you remain true to yourself.
And if this is a hard lesson to learn, think about the annoying younger sibling who wouldn't leave you alone. Or the incredibly suck up friend from school who always try too hard to be your friend. Neither of those images inspire romantic thoughts. So don't turn into them yourself and expect romance.
